An award in recognition of nearly one hundred years at the service of Sarapiquí

On Saturday, November 19th, at the solemn session of the municipal council, the Municipality of Sarapiquí recognized three citizens of the region for their contribution to the development of the Sarapiquí canton. Among the winners was the Augustinian Recollect Jesús Nicolás Martínez, who with his pastoral and social work in the region earned the recognition of the citizens, who know him as "Father Martínez" and whose legacy is reflected in the title conferred by the Municipality of Favorite Son.
The session in which Father Jesús would be recognized began at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 19th at the Municipality headquarters. There, finished the acts protocols, the act of recognition of the favorite sons of the canton began with a cultural act by artists with disabilities from the town of Sarapiquí, who performed regional music and some popular songs. Immediately afterwards, the three laureates were presented to the audience: Cecilia Ballesteros, educator and worker of the municipality; Pablo Mata, unionist from the canton and community leader, and Jesús Nicolás Martínez, an Augustinian Recollect, for his dedication to the service of the canton, especially for the efforts he made over the years in favor of the peasants and banana workers in the canton. Each one of them was presented with a painting on leather, typical of the region, with the inscription in honor of the merit obtained by his work in the development of the region.
Prior to the award ceremony, some religious from the communities of the Children’s City, in Cartago, and from the San Ezequiel Moreno Seminary in Pozos de Santa Ana (San José), together with people who witnessed the work of Father Nicolás, accompanied the winner in a fraternal lunch to share the joys of this mention, as well as to remember the work carried out by the Order of Augustinian Recollects in the region.
