The challenges of the pandemic and the IV Centenary, central frameworks of the four-year period 2018-2022
The central aspect of the third day of the 128th Chapter of the Province of Saint Nicholas of Tolentine of the Order of Augustinian Recollects was the presentation, by the Prior Provincial, Sergio Sánchez, of his latest report of the Province.
He has outlined the main context of the four-year period 2018-2022, marked by two events: one external and that has been an important challenge for the whole society, for the internal life of the Province and for pastoral action, the pandemic; and another internal, full of meaning and joy, the 400 year anniversary of the Province, under the motto "Always in mission".
The pandemic, recalled the outgoing Prior Provincial, has marked personal and community lives and has left important challenges, especially regarding the care of religious in a situation that has put almost all structures to the test. It has also involved unexpected losses and a profound exercise in hope.
Likewise, the fulfillment of the priority objective, "creators of communion", with essential aspects such as teamwork, communication and a process that now has its culmination in the value of synodality, has been evaluated.
Fundamental in this sense has been the definitive materialization of the unification of the Provinces of Saint Augustine and Saint Nicholas of Tolentine, a process that still needs adjustments in matters such as vocation ministry, initial and ongoing formation, and communication.
Sergio Sánchez has indicated that, in his understanding, future priorities for the Province will be vocational ministry, initial and ongoing formation, missions and social works, and care of the older friars.
Among the topics that have been discussed in the chapter hall are the promotion of the Augustinian Recollect charism and spirituality, the process of personal, community and institutional revitalization and the putting into practice the Life and Mission Project, at the Provincial level, region and community. The informative part has been completed with the vocational and youth ministry.
The subsequent debate has been rich, intense and has reflected the great challenges ahead and the necessary search for solutions to various limitations when putting plans and projects into practice.
