The Lodosa City Council grants 3,000 euros to the Esperanza de Lábrea Center, which closes its activities after an end-of-year party in 2021
The Esperanza de Lábrea Center, a socio-educational project of the Augustinian Recollects for children and adolescents of both sexes from vulnerable families, restarted its activities in the second half of 2021 after a few months closed due to instructions from the health authorities.
The reopening was carried out with some restrictions; Specifically, the groups were divided into two and each day half of the students from each reference group attended the activities of the Center. Five workshops, school reinforcement and sports activities were opened.
The Esperanza Center offers, in an alternative schedule to the school (morning shift for students who attend formal school in the afternoon, and vice versa), school support classes that reinforce those areas that present greater difficulties to each student in formal school , various workshops (cooking, computers, music and musical instruments, crafts), sports, healthy leisure, cultural activities …
The Amazonian climate and the years are weighing on the facilities, which are renewed or tidied up as new resources arrive. One of the facilities that most needed renovation was the open and covered space in which various sports and cultural activities are carried out and which also acts as an internal distributor between various rooms.
The leaks made this space useless, especially on the rainiest days, which are not few in the Amazon climate. With the collaboration of the Lodosa City Council (Navarra, Spain) and the NGO La Esperanza, the Center has received 3,000 euros that have allowed, along with other contributions, to change this roof and completely renovate the apartment.
Now this space looks like this:
On December 9th, the Center closed the activities for this school year, which in Brazil coincides with the calendar year, from January to December. Everyone participated with joy at the party; Some said goodbye for having finished their life cycle at the Center and others thanked what they had achieved and are already looking forward to the new course for new learning and happy moments.
The three Esperança Centers that the Prelature of Lábrea and the Augustinian Recollects manage in the towns of Lábrea, Tapauá and Pauiní carry out very important activities for local society, especially for the most vulnerable families and the minors who depend on them.
Each of these three Centers represents a protected environment and offers free school support, food support, teaching in values, human growth and even notions that will be very valid for the beneficiaries for their professional future.
In return, their contact with the many dangers of all kinds that threaten minors and their rights in Amazonian society is reduced: crime, drug trafficking - they are used for their condition as minors and the punishable consequences that derive from this. or they are induced from very early on to its consumption—, abuse and labor exploitation ...
Many people and institutions from all over the world collaborate with these Centers, without whose solidarity contribution of resources it would be impossible to maintain all their activities. Thank you, Lodosa City Council, NGO La Esperanza and all those who continue to support this work every day.
