Green areas and open nature to green the heart

The Navarran town of Cendea de Galar has been collaborating since 2012 in a very regular way with the NGOD Hope , in turn collaborating and promoting various social projects carried out by the Augustinian Recollects in various parts of the world.
In this 2020, this City Council has decided to support one of the flagship projects of the Province of Saint Nicholas of Tolentine in Brazil, the Santa Monica Home. This centre welcomes girls and adolescents sent by the competent authorities (courts, child guardianship councils) because they have suffered in their home environments, or are at serious risk of suffering, some violation of their fundamental rights in the form of abuse, exploitation, violence, abandonment, non-schooling...
The Santa Monica Home has a large structure within the so-called Uirapuru Spiritual Condo, a large green area located almost in the geographical center of the Brazilian city of Fortaleza (2.7 million inhabitants). Within this Condo coexist various social and pastoral projects of the Catholic Church, each of them in turn with enough space to carry out their purposes.
In the case of the Home, the large space reserved for the project has an office and management building, another of library and classrooms, an events space, a volunteer residence house, a kitchen with warehouse and three houses where the beneficiaries welcomed with an accompanying family are residing divided into old arches.
Among all these buildings the complex gardens has large green areas, gardens, playground, small forests... Its purpose is not merely decorative, but has a therapeutic and liberating meaning. For its best maintenance, the City Council of Cendea de Galar has co-financed with 264 euros the purchase of a trimmer.
Playing is a right referred to in article 31 of the Convention on the Law of the Child. It has been shown to be an irreplaceable form of learning: it increases adaptive skills, emotional regulation and resilience; facilitates creativity, socialization, multi sensory learning, promotes physical exercise and improves motor system, decision-making and problem-solving skills, empathy and participation.
With proper maintenance, the Santa Monica Home can count on ample play space, outdoors but where beneficiaries feel completely safe for being located in their living area. Every day they travel through these spaces to go to form, to play, to move within the Home.
In addition, in 2020, the year of the pandemic, having as many green spaces as possible within the Santa Monica Home, fenced and safe but spacious for recreation, has allowed the mandatory confinement to which the entire community present in the Home has been much more bearable.
