The Santa Monica Home of the Augustinian Recollects in Fortaleza (Ceará, Brazil) has just presented the first edition of its informative Newsletter, published in PDF format and distributed through social networks, web and messaging applications. It consists of four pages.

In the first issue (third quarter of 2020), the cover reports on the protection against the pandemic of the entire community that lives in the Santa Monica Home: beneficiaries, staff that live with them in the host houses, educators, managers and service personnel.

The Home has applied selective isolation of the cohabitants, has canceled out outings and external visits, sanitized facilities, established safe behavior protocols and carried out the necessary tests to know the actual health status of all.

The second page shows the four training spaces carried out during these last months, which have concerned the 30th anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of Children, the fight against human trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation and the reality of sexual violence during the pandemic, this issue with the support of the local NGOD Watercolor Space.

It also reports the programs developed by the Saint Augustine of the Barra de Ceará Psycho-Social Center and the families of the residents. Thanks to the collaboration of Coca Cola Brasil it has been possible to support many people(120families, about 600 people) with basic food baskets.

As for the rule of education, the Saint Augustine  Cultural Center, located within the facilities of the Santa Monica Home, has  become the main reference, once schools closed and offered virtual classrooms. In the morning and afternoon the beneficiaries of the Home received these online classes and the usual reinforcement of the professional educators of the Home itself.

In a special way  the 11th anniversary of the Home was celebrated, which took place on August 27, the feast of the holy mother of St Augustine. In these eleven years 142 girls have passed through the Home, and more than 14,000 people with home visits, CAPSA trainings, community soup, psychosocial care and other services have been served through the ward projects.

A New data management application is also reported thanks to the resources provided by the Dutch NGOD Free a Girl. Within this collaboration with other entities, the Home has counted on the Shopping Parabangaba, the Ministry of Finance of the State of Ceará, the Luck Donation Solidarity Lottery, the voluntary parental action and the collaboration of the San Lucas College the public company CAGECE (Water and Sanitation Company  of  Ceará) and the campaigns of recruitment of partners by telephone campaigns..
